Power is currently working on scaled up sculptures of manufactured objects - created after amassing collected materials - to build a fabricated but mute scene. There are habitually repetitive elements within the works’ structure and surface features. She is experimenting with ways to offset sculptural objects against one another and is also reincorporating text into certain new works. For Glass Cloud Gallery, Power presents a body of work in which she has been playing with subtle surface finishes such as a padded air vent and a 2.2 m nail file coated in salt. There are two oversized 17 amp fuses at the base, acting as conduits for a potential flow/charge.

‘Elastic Defense IIII & V’

17 August - 5 October 2020

Private View 22 September 5:30-7:30pm, with Theatre bar or BYOB. After drinks in nearby Crown & Anchor.

‘Elastic Defence’ was created during lockdown as part of a series of works called ‘Precarious Conditions of Uncertainty’.

‘Walking to my studio in isolation everyday allowed me to see the streets in a different way and I realised that I could be more open to my surroundings than with people around - part of my own defence mechanism was released and with recycling centres closed I noticed discarded objects, unwanted, broken, whose usefulness has supposedly been reached. I wanted to re-use and re-purpose these objects that I felt a deep affinity with, and that included my own previous works of sculpture that had achieved its purpose and been discarded within my studio, even off-cuts that I had saved for some reason but put aside until now. We have created a culture in which objects are manufactured to be discarded rather than re-used, only to exploit more resources to manufacture more objects with a limited life. As visionaries, artists can lead the way in so many aspects of creativity, often using an economy of means, appropriating materials for re-invention.’ — Andrea V Wright
